One of the primary reasons that many businesses use a Mobile Device Management platform is not that they want to track their employees every move, nor spy on what they're doing, but simply to know who has which of their assets, if it's running the right version of software or if it is even still being used!

Mobility has been a driving force for businesses over the past few years. Apple, Samsung and others have done an amazing job with their marketing, telling us how much better we could be at our job, our social lives and achieving our life goals we can be if we had their latest and greatest devices.

In many businesses around the world, thousands of dollars worth of mobile hardware is either broken, misplaced, lost, running software that it out of date or that it shouldn't be, and it could be hurting not only your productivity, but your profitability too.

I've seen many companies from small field services businesses with only 5 or 10 employees to multi million dollar corporations rushing to take advantage of the productivity gains offered by going mobile and then several months later end up asking a similar question, "Where are the phones that I purchased for my staff?" The all too common answer to that is that they simply don't know, they just assume that they're still out there being used for what they were intended for. There was a reason you invested in smart phones the first place other than to make phone calls right?

Ask yourself the following questions, and answer them honestly.

  • Do you know who has your mobile devices?

  • Are they being used properly and actually providing a return on the investment you made?

  • What happened to the old devices when you upgraded?

If you have doubts about any of these questions, it's time you considered what a Mobile Device Management platform can do for you.
